What now, post Covid-19

I have been a successful independent Environmental, Business and Management consultant for 18 years during which time I have been fortunate to have worked with nearly all of the 10 major Water and Wastewater Companies in England and Wales. Also, I have worked with Scottish Water, The States of Jersey and The Government of Cyprus; coaching and training their environmental technicians who maintain and operate these treatment plants. The aim is to ensure they are competent to operate these water and wastewater treatment plants and ensuring compliance with the conditions of the environmental regulations and permits they hold. My work has involved writing and delivering complex training and coaching programmes which involve troubleshooting and problem solving of operational problems with both Water and Wastewater Treatment plants. I have also worked with the MOD and I hold their highest level security clearance to work on their most sensitive sites in order to ensure they remain compliant with licence conditions. I have also enjoyed several contracts working with EDF/Engie at the nuclear plants at Hinkley Point in Somerset; this work was focused on upskilling the technicians who maintain and operate the on site activated sludge Wastewater treatment plant. which involved 4 days of theoretical and practical training that enabled successful candidates to receive a certificate of competence. I have tailored these programmes to help Winchester Council and several large industrial clients such as GM Motors near Liverpool and Rickett and Coleman in Hull to achieve similar results.

EBM history

For many years I have provided various training modules including Display Screen Training with an Assessment of Competence for candidates who receive formal classroom training followed by practical assessment of their Competence to set up their own workstation and assess the set up and workstations of colleagues back in their offices which will now include their own home office if they are either working from home or more commonly hybrid working at their office. I can also provide on site DSE Risk Assessments to either FM companies or building owners to ensure that they remain compliant with these important regulations. Many companies now prefer online remote T & A programmes/modules for many of these routine and less technical H & S requirements. This ensures that they comply with the spirit of the law. I too can provide such training programmes at competitive rates. The above skills and knowledge are required by Facility Managers to ensure that office buildings, factories, industrial sites, government/local government buildings, hospitals, care sector facilities; and many others including hotels, major department stores such as Harvey Nichols in London’s West End which has air cooling towers on it’s roof space with the potential to infect hundreds of thousands of people should the scrubbing plant work incorrectly and release Legionella bacteria into the atmosphere with the potential to spread the bacterium extremely quickly over a very wide area. I have developed and delivered Training and Assessment Programmes for the Control and Management of Legionella which is essential for technicians operating and maintaining this type of plant. I have developed these programmes for Companies and responsible persons who need to demonstrate competence with the correct Training/Coaching, Assessment and Certification programmes for control of Legionella and also Water and Wastewater Treatment and Operational Management training programmes too.

Basic introductory courses for Understanding Legionella in the workplace is now   often delivered online through digital platforms such and Zoom or MS Teams.  However, I would encourage clients to send their employees for face to face      programmes for the more technical aspects of these courses such as those for ‘The Responsible Person’, ‘The Management and Control of Legionella’ and those specifically related to ‘ The Management and Control of Legionella in HVAC systems with Air Cooling Towers which require the use of chemicals and detailed monitoring of the effectiveness by sampling and analyses that are required to be routinely screened and logged to satisfy the RISK ASSESSMENT & RISK MANAGEMENT procedures which need to be registered with the appropriate Local Authority Environmental Health Department.

ISO Registration - what does this mean to my business?

My unique ‘One stop shop’ platform for Health and Safety management that I developed specifically for SME’s can be linked to an affordable Quality Management System which may include Environmental Management systems and ultimately to ISO registration.

ISO which stands for International Organization Standardisation, is a recognised system of registration but is not to be entered into lightly. This is a costly and lengthy process but it is a recognised ‘business kite mark’ and there are tangible bottom line benefits for those companies that are successful in achieving this stringent registration and its ongoing     process.

This is another bespoke service that enables Companies with five or more employees that require a H & S policy/statement to have one at the entry level, for example this can be considered Level 1, for a relatively low cost. This system can be tailored to take the   Company all the way to say Level 5, which can be considered the gold standard. This is where I would be helping the company to achieve an appropriate International Organization Standardization, ISO registration. As previously stated, I have developed and delivered our own packages as well as acting as associates for nationally accredited training organisations. Their clients include major utility companies, retailers and private limited companies. I have worked with major suppliers of safety training at suites of rooms in Bloomsbury, London.

These services were also delivered at clients own premises in the field of Display Screen Training and Competency together with DSE Risk Assessments. Recently, I have been undertaking Training and Competency Assessment Programmes with the RAF/USAF in the fields of Legionella control and management. Also, with up-skilling Training/Coaching and Assessment and Certification programmes in Water and Waste Water Operation.

In future, I will be undertaking these work streams independently through my own certified training section within the consultancy.
